Starr is dedicated to public service.  She is committed to ensuring that the most vulnerable members of our society have access to excellent and compassionate legal assistance.

Every month, Starr volunteers at a pro bono clinic held at the Chinese American Service League (CASL).  The majority of CASL clients do not speak English, but Starr is undeterred in the face of a language barrier.  Aided by translators, Starr offers CASL clients legal assistance on a variety of topics, including contract disputes, immigration law, insurance claims, and workers’ compensation issues.

In addition to her pro bono work, Starr enjoys giving back to her community through volunteering with high school students.  She serves a judge for the CCLRE Mock Trial Competion, the only Chicago-area mock trial competion open to all local high school students.

Previously, Starr served as an Instructor through the Street Law program.  In this role Starr presented dozens of lectures to high school students on the structure of the U.S judicial system, the importance of the Bill of Rights and the political impact of U.S. Supreme Court decisions.  She also organized day-long mock trial competitions aimed at helping students develop their public speaking skills and display their understanding of Constitutional precepts.
